REFLECT Featured in Reuters for pioneering Heat-Health Adaptation Efforts in India
Extreme heat is a growing public health crisis, and REFLECT is tackling this challenge head-on. Their work installing cool roofs in Indian slums has been featured in Reuters, showcasing the impact of innovative, low-cost heat adaptation solutions. In India’s densely populated urban areas, rising temperatures pose severe health risks, particularly for those living in informal settlements. This initiative is helping vulnerable communities combat extreme heat by implementing UV-reflective roofing, a simple yet powerful intervention to lower indoor temperatures and improve health outcomes.
Traditionally, home is where people have come to find shelter and respite against external elements, now, we’re in this position where people are living in precarious housing conditions, where the thing that was supposed to be protecting them is actually increasing their exposure to heat.

Why It Matters:
✅ Thus far, cool roofs appear to provide an affordable, passive cooling solution for heat-exposed communities.
✅ The initiative aligns with HeatNexus’ goal to scale life-saving heat adaptation strategies.
✅ This recognition highlights the importance of evidence-based climate resilience solutions.
